South Korean companies earned more than $2 billion in royalties last year, the nation's central bank said Sunday.
The Bank of Korea (BOK) said royalties earned by South Korean companies in 2006 reached $2.1 billion, up 5.4 percent from a year earlier. The figure represented a 10-fold growth compared with a decade ago, when the earnings stood at around $180 million.
Royalties paid by local companies, however, edged down to $4.49 billion last year from the previous year's $4.56 billion, the BOK said.
