The Ministry of Environment announced on Nov. 9 that it planned to fine BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche after the auto companies were found to have violated emissions rules on the sales of more than 98,000 vehicles. BMW will be subject to the heaviest fine of 60.8 billion won (US$54 million) for falsifying emissions documents on 80,000 units of 28 models between 2012-2015. The company also was cited for selling roughly 8,000 cars with unapproved emissions parts from 2013-2016. Mercedes and Porsche were also facing fines of 2.9 billion won (US$2.59 million) and 7.8 billion won (US$6.96 million) respectively for selling cars with unapproved parts. (Hankyoreh Archive)
