South Korean consumers are paying over 11 times more than the wholesale price for imported wine, a Korean Consumer Agency investigation has revealed. This is far greater than the difference between the list and wholesale price for both imported mineral water (6.6 times greater) and beer (6.4 times greater). “The reason for the high prices is that apart from, there are high transportation and storage costs, retail margin, distribution expenses, and various rental fees and commissions,” the report stated. Unsurprisingly, in a survey of consumer satisfaction with imported wine, prices scored the lowest while choice of brands scored the highest. (Hankyoreh Archive)
