Samsung Electronics held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new 6.5 trillion won (US$6.03 billion) extreme ultra-violet (EUV) semiconductor assembly line at the company’s Hwaseong Campus in Gyeonggi County on Feb. 23. The new EUV line is expected to be completed by the second half of next year, with production beginning in 2020, and will help the company maintain its global leadership in process technology under seven nanometers. In a bit of an embarrassment for the company, the banner announcing the ceremony was pictured upside down on its social networking service, although a spokesman for Samsung denied that any employees were fired as a result of the mistake.
