A team of researchers from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University has created a drone that utilizes origami to stretch a robotic arm which can pick up objects or shoot video footage in difficult-to-reach areas. “The robotic arm was designed to be easily folded and unfolded with a single wire by applying a technique called the ‘variable stiffness mechanism,’” said Professor Cho Kyu-jin, who was a member of the team. The drone was featured on the cover of the current issue of the journal, “Science Robotics.” (provided by Seoul National University)
