According to 2017 data released by the Korea Customs Service, although small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for 97.3 percent of South Korean exporters, they only comprise 17.6 percent of actual exports. Conversely, conglomerates and major corporations account for 66.3 percent of all South Korean exports, although they comprise a mere 0.9 percent of exporters. Observers say the data on South Korean exports reveals the stark inequality between SMEs and conglomerates. (Hankyoreh archives)
