After an estimated 27 incidents of BMW vehicles bursting into flames while on and off road, BMW Korea Chairman Kim Hyo-joon made a public apology during a press conference in Seoul on Aug. 6. To solve the problem, Kim said he has made company operations open to public scrutiny. He also mentioned that over 10 overseas experts have been called into Korea to investigate the causes of the fires and work on solutions. However, Kim failed to provide any clear explanation as to why only BMW cars in Korea have been catching on fire. (Kang Chang-kwang, staff photographer)
