Following a series of vehicles catching on fire, an association of BMW car owners, dubbed “BMW Victims,” gathered at Seoul’s Namdaemun Police Station on Aug. 9 for a press conference demanding an official government investigation of whether the carmaker deliberately concealed its cars’ defects. On Aug. 9 the group moved to file a criminal lawsuit against BMW Korea Chairman Kim Hyo-joon and other executives. On Aug. 17 they expanded that list to include BMW Group Chairman Harald Krüger, BMW Group spokesman Jochen Frey and Park Hye-young, head of marketing for BMW Korea.
