Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors revealed their “solar system” panels that can be fitted to the roof of a car on Oct. 31. The automaker has developed solar panels that can increase a car’s gas mileage and battery power when fitted to hybrid or electric models. Hyundai announced that it’s currently developing “three generations” of solar panel roofs. The first generation, set to launch next year, is designed for hybrid vehicles, and is expected to augment a car’s daily power needs by 30 to 60 percent, depending on weather conditions. The second generation will be designed for internal combustion engines. The third generation, will be fitted to the hood and roof of battery electric vehicles, and is currently undergoing testing.
