Hyundai Motor announced on Dec. 17 that it has developed the world’s first smart fingerprint system that allows drivers to open the car doors and start its engine. Drivers simply have to press their index finger on a sensor next to the door handle to access their vehicles, whereupon they can start the engine via a sensor next to the wheel. While fingerprint technology has been applied to doors for residences, the conditions that a car must endure, such as precipitation and car washes, have made it difficult to apply the same technology to vehicles. Several drivers can register their fingerprints to a single car, and the car automatically configures according to each driver’s customized settings. (provided by Hyundai Motor)
