Kimchi exports reached an all-time high in 2018, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA). Data released by MAFRA on Jan. 16 reveal that South Korea exported US$97.5 million worth of kimchi in 2018, showing a 20% increase from the previous year. This was the highest amount of kimchi exported by South Korea since records began in 2006. The number of countries to which South Korea exported kimchi also increased from 63 to 68. The country that imported the most kimchi was Japan, following the US, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia.
