It’s been about a month since the launch of 5G telecommunications networks throughout South Korea, attracting 260,000 subscribers and a plethora of public interest. Some observers expected the new technology to contribute to South Korea’s fourth industrial revolution and a second startup boom. Customers, however, have complained about inconsistent service amid base stations’ inability to keep up with the new technology, prompting some to conclude it will take more time before the technology becomes fully stabilized. The photo shows South Korean President Moon Jae-in giving his congratulatory remarks at a ceremony on Apr. 8 in Seoul to celebrate South Korea becoming the first to commercialize 5G technology.
