The current Minister of Education and Human Resources Development is under pressure to resign, as some articles he wrote when a professor are suspected of having been "borrowing" too extensively from the work of others, and for his accepting a massive research grant from someone who was doing a doctoral dissertation under his guidance at the same time.
He claims that everything he did is just common practice, and says he's being treated unfairly. It seems things that were once common for the country's professors are considered problematic in this day and age. It is getting harder and harder to be a high-ranking government official, but that's not that big a deal by comparison to other difficulties. It's also getting harder to be a regular member of the Korean public, with all the socioeconomic disparity and the massive amounts of money it takes to get your children enough private tutoring to keep up with the educational 'system.'
