Sinmu Gate, the northern entryway to Gyeongbok Palace, Seoul, was opened to the public on September 29 after 45 years. President Roh Moo-hyn and his wife were among the crowd entering the palace through the newly-opened gate. Behind them is Cheong Wa Dae, the presidential office. Sinmu Gate was closed largely due to security reasons in 1961, just after the successful military coup led by Park Chung-hee.
