Hwang Jae-hyeong, a Korean realism artist, will open an exhibition at the Gana Art Center on Dec. 14 in the Pyeongchang District of Seoul. The “10 Million Hairs” exhibition features coal mining scenes from the Taebaek region of South Korea. The pictures, which are made entirely from human hair, depict scenes from the harsh life of coal mining towns, including the screams of a mother whose son has been killed in the mines, and the sullen expression of workers as they enter the night shift. Hwang is shown in front of his masterpiece, “Standing on My Land,” which he created in 2016. The artist said that he uses hair instead of paint because hair is, “a genuine material that reveals our bodies and shows our lives in totality.” The exhibition will run until Jan. 28.
