The South Korean women’s hockey team had a strong performance at the International Ice Hockey Federation Division I Women’s World Championship, which took place in Asiago, Italy from Apr. 8-14. The South Korean team, led by coach Sarah Murray, finished with 11 points after five games, which put them in 2nd place in the six-team group. The team ended with three wins and one loss, putting them one point behind Italy in Division I, Group B. This was the first time that the South Koreans had participated in Group B, and the strong showing helped the team shake off their tough performance at the Pyeongchang Olympics, when the unified Korean team failed to record a single point.

The tournament marked significant progress for the team, which just five years was in Division III. The team advanced to Division II in 2014, and the moved up to Division I following its victory in the 2017 IIHF Tournament which took place in Gangneung, Gangwon Province last December.
