Armor worn by Joseon soldiers in the 18th century has been returned from a museum in Germany to Korea. The armor, made by inlaying leather with iron, was publicly displayed to the press at the National Palace Museum of Korea on May 30. The armor is believed to have been taken out of the Korea sometime in the early 20th century, presumably during the Japanese Occupation. It has been preserved since by the Mission Museum of Saint Ottilien Archabbey in Eresing, near Munich. The Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation announced that the museum returned the armor to Korea in January.
