To commemorate the centennial of the Mar. 1. Independence Movement, calligrapher Kang Byung-in has used 16 pages of the Hankyoreh for one of his latest creations. Kang wrote the phrase “There is no future for a people that has forgotten its history” in his signature style on Hankyoreh pages with articles related to the Mar. 1 Independence Movement and Liberty Korea Party (LKP) members who have attempted to distort the facts surrounding the 1980 Gwangju Democratization Movement and the Sewol ferry tragedy. “The Gwangju movement was only 30 years ago, and the Sewol tragedy was a mere five years ago, and yet we already see politicians attempting to distort the facts surroundings these events,” Kang said. A collection of 30 of Kang’s works will be exhibited at Mapo Central Library uitl Mar. 22. (Baek So-ah, staff photographer)
