South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun was to return home Saturday after a two-week trip to Europe and the United States, his aides said.

Roh had a summit with President George W. Bush in Washington on Thursday, in which they agree to a "common and broad approach" for the resumption of the six-way talks on the North Korean nuclear program.

On his way back to Seoul, Roh visited the western U.S. city of San Francisco.

He met with a group of "opinion leaders" there to discuss a range of pending issues including the Seoul-Washington alliance and the Northeast Asian security.

Those who attended the event, called "Opinion Leaders Meeting," included former Secretary of Defense William Perry, and the leaders of groups such as the World Affairs Council, the Commonwealth club of California, and the Asia Foundation.

Roh briefed them on the results of his summit with Bush, and explained Seoul's efforts to improve ties with Washington, Roh's spokesman Yoon Tae-young said.

Roh also talked about South Korea's position on the North Korean nuclear issue and regional security, calling for American opinion leaders to pay more attention to the matters, Yoon added.

The spokesman said the U.S. figures at the meeting viewed the Roh-Bush summit as meaningful in that the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a closer alliance between their nations.
