Responding to a call from South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Asiana and Korean Air announced on Nov. 30 that they will be sending chartered planes to evacuate Korean tourists from the Indonesian island of Bali. Authorities on the island have closed the airport due to concerns that the Mt. Agung volcano may be nearing eruption. During a meeting with his National Security Council on Nov. 29 to discuss the Hwasong-15 missile launch by North Korea, Moon asked Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha to examine a variety of methods to evacuate the nearly 1,000 Koreans who are stranded in Bali, including sending chartered flights.
