The South Korean Navy announced on Dec. 15 that it held joint search-and-rescue training with Japan earlier in the day. The drill, which was given the code name “SAREX” was held off the coast of the Japanese city of Yokosuka, and involved three warships and a helicopter. The two South Korean vessels were the 4,400 ton Gang Gam Chan destroyer and the 4,200 ton Hwachon combat support ship, while the Japanese Navy sent its 5,050 ton Teruzuki destroyer. This was the 10th joint search-and-rescue training since the first one was carried in Aug. 1999, and the first between the two sides since 2015. (provided by South Korean Navy)
