The collapse of a hydroelectric dam along the Mekong River in Laos on July 24 has left at least 20 people dead and hundreds of homes in ruins. It has also been revealed that SK Engineering and Construction, the South Korean firm in charge of constructing and managing the dam, discovered faults in the dam two days before the catastrophe occurred, but failed to conduct proper repair work amid a torrential rainstorm. In the aftermath, company spokespersons have announced that SK Engineering and Construction has deployed helicopters, boats, medical supplies, life vests and other relief supplies to areas hit the hardest.
