[Photo] Hwacheon County continues to honor Ethiopian veterans of Korean War

For the past ten years, the people of Hwacheon County, Gangwon Province, has been operating a scholarship fund for the descendants of Ethiopian veterans in the Korean War, who defeated enemy forces on 253 occasions in the nearby region. The brave veterans and their families, however, were stripped of their private assets by the Provisional Military Government of Socialist Ethiopia (1974-1987) for having “fought with the capitalists.” Launched in 2009, the program continues to fund the descendants of the veterans in their educational pursuits.
