On Aug. 30, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach awarded South Korean President Moon Jae-in the Olympic Order in Gold for his contribution to the success of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. First established in 1975, the Olympic Order in Gold is the highest honor given by the IOC, awarded only to those who have “rendered outstanding service to the Olympic cause.” Other South Koreans who have received the award are former President Kim Dae-jung and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
