South Korea sent 51,000 tons of garbage to Mindanao International Container Terminal in the Philippines in July. The shipment was mislabeled as plastic synthetic flakes, but actually contained plastic, used batteries, diapers and dextrose tubes. Korean Customs records indicate that South Korea sent 4,397 tons of plastic waste to the Philippines last year. The environmental organization Greenpeace has since called on South Korea to stop treating the Philippines as a dump site. The photo shows a woman in South Korean protesting the excessive use of plastic in a supermarket on July 1.
