Busan residents have risen in protest following suspicions of US Forces Korea (USFK) conducting biochemical experiments near Busan Port’s Pier 8, which is just 3km away from public institutions and community facilities such as schools and apartment complexes. Demonstrators blocked USFK personnel from entering the Busan Naval Base on Mar. 25, demanding the immediate termination of such experiments. Since 2016, USFK has been suspected of conducting experiments with lethal agents such as anthrax as part of its JUPITR (Joint US Forces in Korea Portal and Integrated Threat Recognition) project.
