The Jeju Provincial Government officially revoked the business license for Chinese-owned Greenland International Medical Center, which would have been South Korea’s first for-profit hospital. The official decision comes after the hospital failed to open by the stipulated deadline. In a press conference on Apr. 17, Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong said that the hospital gave no “proper reason” as to why its operations had been delayed. The establishment of a for-profit on South Korean soil was highly controversial, even if the hospital was only supposed to treat foreign nationals. (provided by the Jeju Provincial Government)
