Employees at South Korean supermarket franchises are demanding that their employers stop selling Japanese products amid a national boycott campaign. South Korean consumers have launched a nationwide boycott against Japanese products in response to Tokyo’s export controls targeting Seoul. On July 24, members of the Korean Mart Labor Union, under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), held a press conference outside Lotte Mart’s Seoul Station branch to announce that they will no longer be providing information or assistance to customers regarding Japanese products. Union representatives said it was Japan who began the trade conflict with its retaliatory measures, and that they will join the boycott against Japanese products in response to Tokyo’s hostile attitude. The union is expected to gather in front of Lotte Mart branches across the country to ask customers to stop buying Japanese products.
