On Aug. 3, South Koreans held a candlelit rally in opposition to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his administration’s retaliatory trade measures against South Korea. Among the 682 civic groups that participated were the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), the Korea Alliance for Progressive Movement (KAPM), and YMCA Korea. The demonstrators accused Abe of things such as “historical distortion” and “economic invasion,” and called for a proper apology. Over 15,000 people attended the rally.
