South Korea is set to toughen regulations on imports of Japanese waste due to concerns regarding radioactivity. The Ministry of Environment announced on Aug. 16 that it will conduct more stringent reviews of Japanese imports of discarded batteries, tires, and plastics. The move follows a decision on Aug. 8 to tighten inspections of coal ash imported from Japan. The photo shows Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki before a Blue House Cabinet meeting on Aug. 13.
