China’s TCL brand, which took Samsung Electronics’ top spot in the North American TV market in the first quarter of 2019, saw a 10% drop in its share of the North American market in the second quarter. As the Trump administration’s tariffs on various Chinese products are expected to go into effect on Sept. 1, Samsung and other South Korean manufacturers are expected to reap the benefits. According to the research firm IHS Markit, Samsung Electronics took back its number one spot in the North American TV market at a share of 22.7% (based on number of units sold) in the second quarter. TCL, which had recorded a 26.2% share in the first quarter, dropped to 16.3% in the second quarter.
