Investigations and research involving South Korea’s push to have four mud flats registered as UNESCO World Heritage sites have concluded. The decision on whether to recognize the mud flats as UNESCO sites is expected to be made in July 2020. The mud flats are located in Seocheon County, South Chungcheong Province, Gochang County, North Jeolla Province, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province, and Boseong County and Suncheon in South Jeolla Province. Investigations were carried out by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in cooperation with the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
