The 2019 Asia Future Forum, organized by the Hankyoreh, was held at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel from Oct. 23 to 24. Titled,” Great Transformation: The New Deal for a Sustainable Future,” the forum focused on renewable and sustainable energy amid climate change. Among those who participated were American economic and social theorist Jeremy Rifkin and Kim Eun-mee, professor at Ewha University’s Graduate School of International Studies, who both advocated action from the entire global community to prevent disastrous consequences. Rifkin said in a pre-recorded lecture that climate scientists say humanity is facing its earth’s sixth major extinction crisis, adding that half of the earth’s current animal life is expected to go extinct within the next 70 to 80 years.
