South Korean and Japanese trade representatives held working-level talks on Nov. 28 to discuss solutions to the two countries’ trade dispute sparked by Japan’s export controls. Working-level officials from both sides met in Seoul to set up talks at the director-general level. On Nov. 22, South Korea decided to conditionally extend its General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) with Japan as well as withdraw its complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO) over Japan’s export controls. The working-level talks can be seen as the initial phase in resuming South Korea-Japan trade negotiations.
