Police, prosecutors appear to be wrapping up probe
Investigators have found no evidence of someone being behind the May 20 attack on Park Geun-hye, representative of main opposition Grand National Party. The investigation team, a joint effort between the prosecution and police, said on May 26, "We have been investigating ex-convict Ji Chung-ho’s cell phone conversations and financial records for the past three months, but we could not verify the existence of a co-conspirator."
A private money broker had testified to investigators that, leading up to the attacks, Mr. Ji issued two checks totaling 2 million won (2 million USD), but after examining Mr. Ji’s financial records, the testimony proved false.
A review of closed-circuit TV tapes made on the express bus Mr. Ji used to travel from Incheon to Seoul on May 20, the day he attacked Ms. Park, Mr. Ji was alone.
A team of 38 prosecutors and police officers has been working on the case.
