Preliminary reports indicate they were not born in hospital
The bodies of two infants were found in the freezer of a house in Banpo-dong in southern Seoul. According to a police announcement, a 40-year-old French man found the two corpses wrapped in vinyl bags in the freezer of his house and called the police around 11:30 a.m. "The results of the first autopsy by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation showed that the babies are not Korean, and considering the situation of their umbilical cords, they were not born at a hospital. We are investigating foreign women who received medical checks for pregnancy at hospitals," the police said. "The bodies were too frozen for us to [determine much so far]," the police said. "It looked as if they were born not too long ago," they added. To correctly confirm the nationality of the two infants, their date of birth, and cause of death, the police requested the National Institute of Scientific Investigation perform an autopsy. The French national who discovered the two bodies has been working at a foreign company as an engineer since he and his family came to Korea in August last year. He went to France for vacation in late June with his wife and two children. He had come back to take part in a company meeting when he made the discovery. He stated that his family does not use the freezer often and had not opened it for some time. The police said there were no signs of a break-in. Sought currently are the Filipino maid of the family and a friend of the family, both of whom have keys to the apartment. According to the French citizen, neither is currently in the country. The police have asked the Immigration Bureau to confirm whether or not either has left the country.
