Two U.S. soldiers have been arrested on charges of assaulting a taxi driver for no apparent reason, police said Saturday.
The soldiers, both identified only by their family name initials B and A, belong to the honor guard unit of the Eight U.S.
Army (EUSA). The soldier B, 20, is ranked private first class, while A, 18, is a private.
On Friday night, they pummeled the 51-year-old taxi driver, identified only by his family name Baek, in the face when he was urinating in a public toilet on Itaewon street in central Seoul, according to police.
"The soldiers have refused to make a statement. We will refer them to the U.S. military police after interrogation," a police officer said on condition of anonymity.
