The board of directors of the Foundation of Broadcast Culture (FBC), which oversees MBC broadcasting, approved a motion to remove controversial president Kim Jang-gyeom on Nov. 13. The vote came after 71 days of striking by journalists from MBC and KBS, who were protesting political interference by Kim in the network’s programming. Kim Yeon-guk, director of the MBC branch of the National Union of Mediaworkers, is seen celebrating the news with other striking union members outside of the FBC headquarters building in the Yeouido District of Seoul.
