Workers in the “Unionizing for a Good World Organizing Headquarters” held a press conference at the statue of famed labor activist Jeon Tae-il at Cheonggyecheon in Seoul to announce the 1113 Societal Declaration codifying the right of all workers, including irregular workers, to organize. The participants held red umbrellas over the statue of Jeon to symbolize solidarity and the unionization of workers. Jeon Tae-il was a textile worker who self-immolated in 1970 to protest factory conditions and has become a symbol of the labor movement since that time. (by Shin So-young, staff photographer)
