Rival groups gathered in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province at the birthplace of Park Chung-hee to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the former president’s birth. About 100 members of right-wing groups waving South Korean and American flags chanted, “Release Park Geun-hye” and “Overthrow Moon Jae-in.” Some also wore placards on their backs with the jailed former president’s face which read, “Forever President.” On the opposing side, about 40 members of civic groups demanding a halt to the construction of a Park Chung-hee historical museum held a press conference to express their opposition.
