The Association for the Rights of High School Student Trainee held a demonstration in front of the statue of Admiral Lee Su-shin in Gwanghwamun Square on Nov. 20 to commemorate the death of a student trainee in Jeju, and to demand safer working conditions.

The death of 18-year-old Lee Min-ho, who was working at a beverage company, was the second time this year that a student trainee has been killed in a work-related incident. Earlier in the year, another student trainee committed suicide at a U-Plus Customer Service Center in Jeonju, South Jeolla Province, and left a note saying, “I couldn’t handle all the calls.” The Association plans to hold candlelight demonstrations every evening at 7 p.m to draw attention the to the issue.
