The Ministry of National Defense Agency for KIA Recovery and Identification announced on Nov. 23 that it had confirmed the identify of Kim Ah-kwee, a laborer who was killed in the Korean War, and returned the remains to his 78-year old son, currently living in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Kim, who was born in 1911, served in the 5009 Unit (103rd Division, 109th Regiment) during the war and was killed in October 1951. Kim was the eighth veteran whose remains were identified by the Agency this year, and the 126th since their work began in 2000. This is the first time a military laborer has been identified.
