A novel program to encourage energy conservation opened in Gangwon Province on Nov. 27. Beginning in Nov 2014, consumers were able to register with the program and submit the amount of energy they expected to be able to conserve. If they were able to keep the pledge, the government would refund the cost of that electricity from their bill. While there have been cases in which large-scale industrial companies have participated in electricity conservation programs, the program in Gangwon Province is the first to open the way for SMEs, public institutions and individuals to participate. Gangwon Province Governor Choi Moon-soon is seen registering for the program at a ceremony at the provincial office on Nov. 27. (provided by Gangwon Provincial Office)
