Hong Chan-in, who entered Harvard University after attaining a perfect score on the SAT, entered the ROK Marines on Dec. 3 following the completion of basic training for new recruits. Hong, who entered Harvard in 2015 and is currently studying Mathematics, became a Marine over the opposition of his parents. He was inspired to join the Marines after seeing Marine Corps members fighting for their lives following the North Korean artillery attack on Yeongpyeong Island in Nov. 2010. “The value of the Marine Corps means more to me than the value of [attending] Harvard,” said Hong.
