The ROK Army announced on Dec. 5 that it plans to create a drone-bot battle group that can be deployed by next year. “We have developed a standard drone-bot platform and expanded the functions to create a battle group that will operate as a “game changer” on the battlefield,” said an Army spokesman. A drone-bot is a combination of a drone and a robot. The Army expects the drone-bots to monitor the enemy’s important targets, such as leadership and missile launch sites, and if necessary strike the enemy in order to contribute to operational goals. The photo shows a “Songgolmae” (peregrine falcon) drone, which is a reconnaissance aircraft operated by the South Korean Army Corps.
