A funeral for Lee Min-ho, a student trainee who was killed last month while working at a beverage company, was held on Dec. 6 in Seogwipo City on the island of Jeju. The funeral was held at his former high school and was attended by the Jeju Superintendent of Education, Lee Seok-Moon, the governor of Jeju Province, Won Hee-ryong, and 300 of Lee’s friends, family members, classmates, and teachers.
Lee’s death, along with that of another student trainee who committed suicide at a U-Plus Customer Service Center in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province earlier this year, has led to calls for improving safety conditions at companies which employ the young workers. The photo of Lee displayed at his funeral was taken in July for the graduation album for Seogwipo Industrial Science High School. (by Baek So-ah, staff photographer)
