A group of 300 citizens braved sub-zero Celsius temperatures on Dec. 20 to gather outside the site of the former Japanese embassy in the Jongno District of Seoul for the 1314th demonstration demanding that Japan apologize and provide compensation to former comfort women. The demonstration took place one day after the death of Song Sin-do, who was the sole comfort woman survivor to file a lawsuit against the Japanese government. A South Korean government task force report on the agreement that the Park Geun-hye administration concluded with Japan in December 2015 to address the issue is due to be finalized next week.
