[Photo] Court puts brakes on closing of country’s biggest dog meat market

Seongnam City government efforts to close the dog meat market at Moran Market in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, which had been underway since February, were temporarily put on hold after an injunction was issued by the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court on Dec. 22. In response to a petition submitted by one of the dog meat business, the court announced that, “a pause in the dismantling of the market would not have a significant effect on public welfare.” Animal rights groups staged a demonstration on Dec. 30 at Moran Market to protest the decision.
