A civic group called, “The University Students’ Special Rat Catchers Brigade: Lee Myung-bak in the Trap” staged a demonstration outside the former president’s office in the Daechi neighborhood of Seoul on Jan. 4 to demand a rigorous investigation of corruption allegations. Lee, whose critics nicknamed him “Rat,” has been dogged by numerous scandals including NIS political interference and his alleged ownership of the car-parts firm, Das. The students also urged an investigation into financial irregularities stemming from the Four Rivers Project and Lee’s overseas “resource diplomacy” that has led to major losses for publicly owned South Korean companies.
