[Photo] New center-of-road bus lanes introduced in central Seoul

New bus lanes have opened in the center of the road in the Jongno District, speeding up commute times for those riding buses, but slowing things down for everyone else. The new lanes have sped up commute times for buses between Jongno and Dongdaemun by 13.5%, but slowed commute times for taxis and cars by 16.7%. The photograph shows the road between Jongno 1 and Jongno 2 with long lines of car traffic, while the middle bus lane remains largely empty. “There are fewer cars, but there’s construction everywhere, so I feel nervous when I go through this area,” said one taxi driver.
